Job Description
Job Title: Quantum Research Scientist Intern, Device and Architecture Theory. Location: Pasadena, California, USA
Job Type: Internship (Research Internship, 12 weeks, full-time)
You will work closely with both theory and experimental teams in a highly collaborative research environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct theoretical research to guide the design of future quantum processors
- Study device physics of superconducting circuits and novel qubit designs
- Explore new quantum gate schemes and architectures;
- Research physical implementations of quantum error-correcting codes
- Collaborate with theorists, experimental scientists, and engineers
- Analyze and interpret simulation and experimental results
- Communicate research findings clearly through discussions and documentation
- Contribute to scientific publications and internal research reports
Qualifications:
- Ability to work at least 40 hours per week for a maximum of 12 weeks
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Pasadena, California;
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field
- Research experience in quantum physics, such as quantum computing, communication, sensing, condensed matter, or AMO physics
- Proficiency in a scientific programming environment
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based research setting
Preferred:
- Familiarity with quantum error correction, including qubit codes or bosonic codes
- Experience running numerical simulations of quantum systems
- Prior research on superconducting qubits, circuit or cavity QED, quantum optics, or open quantum systems
- Experience working on cross-functional or cross-team research projects;
- Experience analyzing experimental data or supporting experimental research

- Competitive annualized pay range: USD 136,000 to 184,000 (final pay depends on experience, qualifications, and location)
