Quantum Research Scientist Intern, Device & Architecture

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Research Scientist Intern, Device and Architecture Theory. Location: Pasadena, California, USA

Job Type: Internship (Research Internship, 12 weeks, full-time)

You will work closely with both theory and experimental teams in a highly collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct theoretical research to guide the design of future quantum processors
  • Study device physics of superconducting circuits and novel qubit designs
  • Explore new quantum gate schemes and architectures;
  • Research physical implementations of quantum error-correcting codes
  • Collaborate with theorists, experimental scientists, and engineers
  • Analyze and interpret simulation and experimental results
  • Communicate research findings clearly through discussions and documentation
  • Contribute to scientific publications and internal research reports

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week for a maximum of 12 weeks
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Pasadena, California;
  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field
  • Research experience in quantum physics, such as quantum computing, communication, sensing, condensed matter, or AMO physics
  • Proficiency in a scientific programming environment
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based research setting

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with quantum error correction, including qubit codes or bosonic codes
  • Experience running numerical simulations of quantum systems
  • Prior research on superconducting qubits, circuit or cavity QED, quantum optics, or open quantum systems
  • Experience working on cross-functional or cross-team research projects;
  • Experience analyzing experimental data or supporting experimental research

  • Competitive annualized pay range: USD 136,000 to 184,000 (final pay depends on experience, qualifications, and location)
