Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Software Engineer II. Location: Redmond, WA, USA

Job Type: Full-Time (Hybrid, 3 days in-office per week)

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop fast, reliable, and secure components using Rust, Python, and TypeScript for quantum developer tools.
  • Build language and compiler features for Q#, OpenQASM, QIR, and related quantum programming technologies.
  • Develop simulators, debuggers, profilers, and interactive tools for quantum systems.
  • Create and improve VS Code integrations to enhance developer productivity;
  • Integrate advanced AI capabilities into quantum development workflows.
  • Collaborate with experts in quantum chemistry, error correction, control systems, and hardware to build end-to-end solutions.
  • Contribute to open-source projects, including issue triaging and feature improvements.
  • Work within a collaborative team environment while taking ownership of individual contributions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field with relevant industry experience.
  • 2+ years of programming experience in relevant languages.
  • Experience developing commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi-component systems.
  • Experience working in collaborative environments;
  • Ability to meet Microsoft security and background check requirements.
  • Ability to work with export-controlled information in compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to use AI tools to improve productivity and innovation.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate or advanced experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience with programming languages, compilers, simulators, or AI integration.
  • Experience with Rust, Python, or web technologies (HTML, CSS);
  • Knowledge of quantum computing fundamentals and mathematics such as linear algebra.
  • Familiarity with quantum development frameworks such as QDK, Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, or CUDA-Q.
  • Experience with GPU programming.
  • Familiarity with LLVM and intermediate representation (IR).

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $100,600 – $199,000 per year (higher range in select locations such as San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $131,400 – $215,400).
  • Eligibility for additional compensation and benefits as per Microsoft policies;
  • Access to comprehensive benefits including healthcare, financial programs, and career development resources.

Other Information:

  • Travel requirement: less than 25%.
  • Role requires passing Microsoft Cloud Background Check and compliance with export control regulations.
  • Position remains open for a minimum of 5 days and until filled;
