Research Scientist, Quantum

Job Description

Position: Senior Research Scientist, Quantum. Location: Goleta, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Perform electromagnetic modeling of superconducting quantum chips and packaging.
  • Use EM simulation tools (e.g., HFSS) to predict quantum gate fidelities and analyze coupling and chip modes.
  • Quantify surface loss and its impact on qubit relaxation time (T1).
  • Develop and maintain software linking simulations with the quantum hardware design workflow;
  • Collaborate with design and fabrication teams to optimize chip coherence and gate operations;
  • Present research findings in internal reviews and at external scientific conferences or journals.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
  • Background in electromagnetic modeling or electromagnetic theory.
  • Hands-on experience with superconducting qubits.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of computational electromagnetics.
  • Experience designing microwave components and packaging.
  • Understanding of condensed matter physics and quantum gates;
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Experience collaborating with experimental physicists or engineers.

Benefits:

  • Base salary range: $166,000–$244,000 (based on level, location, and experience)
