Scientist Manager, Quantum Gates

Job Title: Staff Research Scientist Manager, Quantum Gates. Location: Goleta, CA, USA

This role blends leadership and deep technical involvement in experimental quantum computing research; You’ll help design physical models to explain complex phenomena, work closely with the processor team, and contribute toward building a scalable quantum computing platform.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a team of research scientists focused on developing high-fidelity quantum gates.
• Lead cross-functional projects to benchmark quantum gate improvements using quantum algorithms;
• Evaluate and characterize the performance of quantum gates on prototype and flagship quantum hardware.
• Collaborate with theoretical physicists to interpret and model experimental data;
• Provide data-driven recommendations to enhance the design and performance of future quantum processors.
• Contribute to the research community by sharing and publishing scientific results.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience managing a technical research team;
• Experience in calibration and control of experimental hardware systems.
• At least two scientific publications in conferences, journals, or public repositories.

Preferred:

• Hands-on experience with qubit measurement.
• Familiarity with theoretical modeling of quantum systems;
• Background in electromagnetic or RF/microwave simulations.
• Experience with RF or microwave engineering.
• Contribution to or maintenance of collaborative software suites.

Compensation:

• US base salary range: $197,000 to $291,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits;
• Final salary depends on location, skills, experience, and education;
