Interconnect Research & Development Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Interconnect Research and Development Engineer, Quantum AI. Location: Goleta, California, USA

You will guide these technologies from early research and development through fabrication, testing, and transfer to manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

• Research and develop new interconnect and connector technologies for cryogenic microwave devices and quantum processor components.
• Work with electrical connectors, silicon, 3D integration methods, and MEMS technology to support quantum hardware needs.
• Create and run detailed test plans to measure electrical, mechanical, thermal, and signal performance.
• Evaluate manufacturing yield and reliability of interconnect systems;
• Develop and characterize new fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing processes and define their limits and capabilities.
• Select, specify, and purchase tools and equipment needed for development and production.
• Document new processes and transfer them to internal manufacturing teams or external partners;
• Collaborate with Google Quantum AI teams, as well as academic and industry groups, to advance interconnect and connector technologies at scale.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Six years of experience with performance testing, reliability analysis, and yield analysis for electronics or interconnect hardware;
• Six years of process engineering or manufacturing experience in semiconductor or interconnect technologies, including photolithography, thin-film deposition, electroplating, dry and wet etching, PCB manufacturing, or connector fabrication;
• Six years of experience in electrical connectors, MEMS, semiconductor packaging, and related design, development, and testing work.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree or PhD in a related engineering or physics field.

Benefits and Information:

• US base salary range: 174,000 to 258,000 USD.
