Research Scientist Intern, Quantum

Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist Intern, Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Santa Clara, CA and Pasadena, CA

Responsibilities:

  • Support research toward building a fault-tolerant quantum computer with teams of physicists, engineers, and materials scientists.
  • Work on advanced topics such as superconducting qubits, cavity and circuit QED, quantum optics, open quantum systems, and electromagnetic simulations of superconducting circuits;
  • Develop and test new ideas that improve quantum computing performance, scale, and reliability.
  • Run experiments, simulations, or theoretical studies aligned with the needs of the AWS Center for Quantum Computing.
  • Contribute to benchmarking, quantum error correction investigations, and other research tasks that push quantum computing forward.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate research progress clearly;
  • Work on targeted customer use cases and help prepare solutions that can lead to future AWS quantum products.
  • Follow all workplace and safety requirements and maintain professionalism across teams.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a PhD program during the internship.
  • Able to relocate to the internship location.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Able to work at least 40 hours per week for a minimum of 11 weeks.

Preferred:

  • Background in superconducting qubits, cavity and circuit QED, quantum optics, open quantum systems, superconductivity, microwave engineering, electromagnetic simulations, benchmarking, or quantum error correction.
  • Experience with scientific tools such as Python, MATLAB, or R;
  • Strong curiosity and interest in new research developments in quantum computation.
  • Ability to work well with diverse teams, handle fast-moving research, and show attention to detail.
