Job Description
Job Title: Senior Ion Trap Scientist. Location: College Park, Maryland, USA
Responsibilities:
- Experimentally characterize novel ion traps to enhance scalability and performance
- Collaborate with design and fabrication teams to prototype and test ion trap architectures
- Demonstrate new ion trap capabilities aimed at scaling to hundreds of qubits
- Optimize trap testing tools to improve throughput, stability, and feature development
Qualifications:
- PhD in Experimental Physics or a related field with expertise in atomic physics
- 2+ years of post-PhD industry experience (7+ years preferred for senior-level candidates)
- Hands-on experience with trapped ion or neutral atom systems;
- Proficiency in areas such as ultracold atomic physics, microfabrication, or numerical simulations of charged particles
- Familiarity with laser ablation, cryogenic systems, photoionization, or laser cooling;
- Knowledge of experimental software control and data acquisition tools (e.g., Git, version control systems, time-series databases)
- Systems engineering background in turning physical prototypes into real-world products
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary range: $107,123 – $140,251, plus performance bonuses and equity
