Senior Quantum Simulation Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quantum Simulation Engineer. Location: Santa Barbara, California, United States

Job Type: Full-Time, Individual Contributor (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine simulation models for quantum device behavior and qubit error processes.
  • Define and implement error models for quantum systems and operations.
  • Validate simulation results against experimental and real-world data;
  • Improve accuracy and performance of quantum simulation tools.
  • Build and maintain simulation libraries and modeling frameworks.
  • Run large-scale simulations for qubit networks and system scalability analysis.
  • Translate simulation outputs into actionable design recommendations;
  • Collaborate with quantum hardware, measurement, and error correction teams.
  • Support development of AI-assisted tools for quantum experimentation workflows.
  • Communicate technical findings across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field with 6+ years experience
    OR Master’s degree with 4+ years experience
    OR PhD with 1+ years experience;
  • Experience in research or development environments related to quantum or advanced computing systems.
  • Strong background in numerical modeling and simulation.

Technical Requirements:

  • Experience with quantum device modeling and error processes.
  • Knowledge of quantum computing systems and qubit behavior.
  • Ability to work in high-performance computing environments.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages.

Preferred:

  • Research experience in quantum computing (academic or commercial).
  • Knowledge of quantum error correction and qubit error models.
  • Experience modeling open quantum systems.
  • Familiarity with large-scale simulation frameworks;
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with collaborative software development.
