Job Description
IonQ is hiring a Staff Software Engineer – Hybrid Quantum Workflow Integration to join its new Chattanooga, Tennessee site. This role is pivotal in integrating hybrid quantum algorithms into scalable workflows that run seamlessly across cloud environments and edge platforms. The engineer will serve as a bridge between internal quantum and cloud platform teams and external partners, contributing to real-world problem-solving using IonQ’s quantum computing capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Integrate hybrid quantum algorithms into robust, accessible end-to-end workflows.
- Co-design and deploy APIs and services to support hybrid quantum applications.
- Collaborate across application, product, infrastructure, and cloud engineering teams.
- Work directly with Chattanooga-based stakeholders to solve energy-related problems using quantum computing.
- Promote software development best practices, including Agile methodologies and CI/CD.
- Contribute to establishing the culture, tools, and processes for IonQ’s new Chattanooga office.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with large-scale or cross-organizational teams.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one additional programming language.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and scalable service design.
- Experience delivering software that blends R&D, open-source, and commercial components.
- Subject matter expertise in energy-related topics such as network optimization, smart grids, or energy marketplaces.
- Willingness to align with customer schedules, including potential international travel and on-site work.
Preferred:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, particularly in energy-related applications.
- Experience integrating innovative functionality across hyperscaler clouds and third-party software.
- Familiarity with quantum development tools such as Qiskit, PennyLane, or similar SDKs.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 10% domestic and international travel, focused on client engagement.
Compensation:
- Base salary range: $141,670 - $185,482
- Includes bonus and equity components.
- Total compensation will reflect factors such as location, skills, and experience.
