Quantum Error Correction Software Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quantum Error Correction Software Engineer. Location: New Haven, Connecticut, United States (Hybrid)

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with physicists and QEC specialists to develop, simulate, and validate quantum error correction codes.
  • Implement robust software components and integrate them into D-Wave’s software stack.
  • Write comprehensive tests to ensure high-quality software;
  • Work with stakeholders on near- and long-term quantum computing applications, including error correction resource estimation.
  • Maintain clean, well-documented code and conduct thorough code reviews.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance on software best practices to the team.

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with specialization in quantum computing.
  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with C, C++, Python, or another compiled programming language.
  • 3+ years of experience in quantum computing or quantum information, including at least one modern quantum SDK such as Qiskit, Q#, CUDA-Q, or Stim.
  • Competence with Git, build tools, and CI/CD pipelines;
  • Experience with software testing principles, including unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Math, Physics, or Chemistry.
  • 7+ years of hands-on software development experience.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in quantum computing.
  • High-impact publications in quantum error correction.
  • Experience with lower-level languages such as Rust or C++;
  • Knowledge of surface code implementations, quantum error correction decoder algorithms, lattice surgery, and magic state preparation.
  • Experience with fault-tolerant quantum algorithms and intermediate representations like QIR.
  • Ability to convert classical algorithms to quantum solutions for computational chemistry, optimization, or hybrid quantum applications.
