Advanced AMO Theorist

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Advanced AMO Theorist. Location: Broomfield, CO, United States (Hybrid, up to 2 days remote with approval)

You will work closely with experimentalists and other theorists to advance state-of-the-art quantum systems; The role is primarily onsite, with limited remote work flexibility, to support close collaboration and fast decision-making.

Responsibilities:

• Model and analyze trapped-ion quantum computers in collaboration with theorists and experimental teams
• Measure, characterize, and improve quantum system performance
• Propose new methods to enhance quantum hardware efficiency and reliability
• Publish and present research results internally and externally;
• Set and maintain high scientific standards across the theory team
• Support best practices in theoretical research and collaboration

Qualifications:

• PhD completed before start date
• Minimum 6 years of relevant research experience, including PhD work
• U.S. Person status required (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, asylum or refugee status)
• Must not be a People's Republic of China or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen;
• Strong background in theoretical research related to quantum systems

Preferred:

• PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field
• Background in atomic physics and or quantum benchmarking
• Deep knowledge of trapped-ion quantum computers
• Hands-on experience with quantum computing hardware
• Proven experience working closely with experimentalists;
• Leadership experience across research projects and programs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with published research
• Ability to work with customers, partners, and cross-functional teams
