Control Stack Manager

Job Description

Job Title: Control Stack Manager, Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, California, USA

The Control Stack Manager will lead a team of scientists and software engineers developing research software and infrastructure that connects experimental quantum hardware with advanced software systems; This role sits at the intersection of quantum hardware and control software.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive the technical vision for the quantum software and hardware interface
  • Lead and grow a team of scientists and software engineers
  • Collaborate closely with experimental physics and control hardware teams
  • Translate scientific goals into software project plans and resource allocation
  • Oversee architecture, implementation, and engineering quality standards
  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical feedback;
  • Manage hiring, interviewing, and team development
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time with high engineering standards
  • Align software strategy with the broader experimental roadmap
  • Work across teams to support cross-functional experimental goals

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience managing science or engineering teams
  • Experience managing the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience with quantum control systems, FPGA development platforms, or laboratory test and measurement equipment
  • Strong collaboration experience with scientists or hardware engineers;
  • Experience hiring and mentoring engineers and scientists
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with quantum control software and techniques
  • Experience in programming language implementation or compiler development
  • Experience with embedded systems and strict timing constraints such as RTOS or custom Linux builds
  • Knowledge of software telemetry systems and distributed systems;
  • Experience with high-performance networking technologies
