Quantum Research Engineer - MS / PhD

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Research Engineer, Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, California, USA

The team is seeking a Research Engineer focused on cryogenic hardware design for quantum computing systems; This role supports the development of scalable signal delivery systems and improved thermal and electromagnetic performance for quantum processors operating at cryogenic temperatures.

Responsibilities:

  • Design high-density packaging solutions for quantum processor units
  • Develop cryogenic mechanical designs for signal conditioning sub-assemblies
  • Design cryogenic signal delivery systems
  • Perform simulation-driven design work including shielding and filtering to reduce electromagnetic interference in qubit environments
  • Drive full product development lifecycle from requirements to final delivery
  • Prepare design reports, conduct design reviews, and create assembly and testing documentation
  • Participate in requirement, design, and test reviews with internal stakeholders;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to guide technical decisions
  • Define and refine engineering standards and processes
  • Work in a fast-paced, research-driven environment

Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Strong experience in cryogenic mechanical design
  • Experience managing full product development lifecycle
  • Experience with design for manufacturing
  • Expertise in finite element analysis including thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic simulations
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks
  • Strong foundation in cryogenic mechanical engineering theory and practical implementation
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Preferred:

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Physics
  • Experience in quantum hardware development
  • Experience with quantum processor packaging;
  • Knowledge of RF and microwave principles
  • Knowledge of PCB design and manufacturing
