Job Title: Lab Software Engineer, Control & Calibration – AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, California (AWS Center for Quantum Computing)
The role involves working closely with quantum physicists and engineers to enable smooth operation, calibration, and monitoring of quantum devices.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and integrate telemetry and monitoring systems for laboratory hardware and software.
- Maintain consistent and reliable data collection, metrics, and logs for research systems;
- Collaborate with scientists to design visualizations and dashboards for observability data.
- Use infrastructure-as-code to automate deployment and updates for lab systems.
- Support lab operations by ensuring software tools are scalable, secure, and available.
- Contribute to a shared codebase through clear documentation and mentorship;
- Translate experimental and theoretical requirements into working software implementations.
- Work on projects that extend the functionality and performance of AWS’s internal quantum research software stack.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of professional experience in software development.
- Strong background in software architecture and system design.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Bash, or Perl.
- Experience with web development (client-server, databases);
- Familiarity with observability tools (OpenTelemetry, Grafana);
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and cloud deployment practices.
- Hands-on experience with the software development lifecycle.
Preferred:
- Experience collaborating with scientists or working in a research environment.
- Familiarity with AWS services and tools, including AWS CDK;
- Experience using laboratory test and measurement equipment.
- Knowledge of JavaScript and React.
- Background in experimental physics, IoT systems, or quantum computing.
