Job Description

Job Title: Manager, Detection & Readout. Location: Bothell, Washington, United States

Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional team developing optical readout systems.
• Own the full lifecycle of hardware system development—from design through integration.
• Develop roadmaps to enhance the fidelity and speed of quantum gate operations;
• Guide teams through product development cycles and ensure manufacturing-readiness.
• Collaborate with external vendors to secure high-quality optical and RF components;
• Apply modern optical design tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V) for high-performance systems.
• Coordinate across teams to de-risk technical paths and prioritize development goals;
• Keep the team up to date with the latest in optical and quantum hardware technology.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Engineering (optical engineering preferred).
• 2+ years of team management experience on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
• 8+ years in optical system design using tools like Zemax or Code V;
• Experience with imaging systems and photonic integration in commercial products;
• Strong communication skills for cross-functional technical coordination.

Preferred:

• PhD in Physics or Optical Engineering.
• 3+ years of team leadership experience.
• Proven record in full lifecycle product development.
• Expertise in 5+ technical areas such as:
  • Laser Engineering
  • Optical Engineering
  • Optical Modulation
  • Signal Processing
  • System Control Theory
  • AMO Physics
