System Development Engineer - Quantum

Job Description

Job Title: System Development Engineer – Quantum Engineering (AWS Center for Quantum Computing). Location: USA, CA, San Francisco

These systems support quantum hardware design, simulation, and large-scale physical modeling used by quantum scientists and engineers; The role focuses on reliability, performance, automation, and security of cloud-based HPC infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud-based HPC clusters on AWS
  • Automate cluster provisioning, system updates, application testing, and user account management
  • Manage Linux-based operating systems and software environments for shared HPC usage
  • Build, deploy, and maintain containerized workloads;
  • Debug infrastructure, performance, and system-level issues
  • Secure HPC environments and enforce best practices for access and data protection
  • Improve performance and availability of HPC systems for computer-aided engineering users
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support multiple EC2 instance types and regions
  • Manage large datasets distributed across regions and clusters;
  • Expand computational infrastructure to support scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computer development
  • Enable faster quantum hardware design cycles through improved modeling and simulation capabilities

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of hands-on systems engineering or infrastructure administration experience
  • Strong background in networking, storage systems, and operating systems;
  • Experience automating and supporting large-scale infrastructure
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, including Python, Java, C++, C#, Rust, Ruby, or Go
  • Experience with Linux or Unix environments
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build systems;
  • Hands-on experience using AWS cloud services in a DevOps environment

Preferred:

  • Experience building or supporting HPC software and applications
  • Experience administering shared-user high-performance computing environments

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base salary range: $116,300 to $201,200 per year, depending on location and experience
  • Additional compensation may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and performance-based incentives
