Quantum Hardware Scientist

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Hardware Scientist. Location: Golden Valley, MN, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, integrate, and verify trapped ion quantum computing hardware in a laboratory environment.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to translate system-level designs into functional QPUs (Quantum Processing Units).
  • Evaluate and characterize system performance, subsystems, and components;
  • Present scientific findings through internal reports, presentations, and publications;
  • Support handoff of fully integrated systems to deployment teams.

Qualifications:

  • PhD (completed prior to start) in Physics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience (including PhD research) in fields such as quantum information, qubits, atomic physics, optics, or vacuum systems.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, or refugee/asylee);
  • Not eligible if a national of the People’s Republic of China or Russia (unless also a U.S. citizen) due to national security regulations.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with QCCD architectures and scaling trapped ion systems.
  • Proficiency in subsystems including lasers, RF/microwave electronics, optics, UHV, and cryogenics.
  • Prior work in quantum device design or operation;
  • Familiarity with experimental control systems and modeling/simulation for hardware optimization.
  • Strong publication record and leadership or mentorship experience.
