Semiconductor Fabrication Scientist

Job Description

Job Title: Semiconductor Fabrication Scientist – 424. Location: Plymouth, MN, USA

This role involves working on the design, fabrication, and testing of microfabricated ion traps with integrated photonics; The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in MEMS or IC fabrication and the ability to work in a collaborative R&D environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all stages of ion trap development and manufacturing, from concept creation and design to fabrication, packaging, and characterization
  • Develop designs and process flows for ion trap components with integrated photonics;
  • Assess requirements for current and future ion traps, and design processes to meet them
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to translate system requirements into functional hardware
  • Partner with external suppliers and research collaborators to advance fabrication capabilities
  • Contribute to long-term planning for future trap designs and processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in MEMS fabrication, IC fabrication, integrated optics, or chip-scale photonics (advanced degrees count toward experience)
  • Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, asylum, or refugee status)
  • Must not be a national of the People’s Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen

Preferred:

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering
  • Experience applying physics and materials science to practical device designs
  • Experience with semiconductor foundry processes;
  • Hands-on work in micro-fabrication R&D environments
  • Proficiency with semiconductor/MEMS tools and processes (layout, thin film deposition, photolithography, etching, packaging)
  • Knowledge of on-chip photonics and fiber-to-chip coupling
  • Experience in Finite Element Modeling for MEMS-like structures;
  • Experience with advanced semiconductor packaging techniques
  • Published research in relevant fields
  • Strong initiative, independence, and interpersonal skills

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $124,000 – $166,000 annually
