Job Description

Job Title: Equipment Engineer – AWS Center for Quantum Computing (Fabrication). Location: Pasadena, CA, USA

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing is seeking an experienced Equipment Engineer to maintain and optimize complex semiconductor fabrication and characterization equipment in a cleanroom environment. The role is vital to supporting AWS’s mission to deliver cloud-based quantum computing services to global customers.

Responsibilities:

• Operate within a cleanroom, working closely with research scientists and process engineers.
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and lab infrastructure issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance, calibrations, and improvements to maximize equipment uptime.
• Coordinate with vendors for new equipment installation, repairs, and scheduled maintenance;
• Develop and document equipment maintenance procedures and improvements to lab infrastructure.
• Lead equipment health initiatives and tracking in the manufacturing execution system (MES).
• Conduct daily lab walkthroughs to assess equipment status and prioritize tasks;
• Support hardware modifications and lab upgrades to enhance research capabilities.
• Maintain detailed documentation of repairs, procedures, and improvements.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years hands-on experience in equipment engineering or related field.
• Proven expertise in maintaining and servicing fabrication and/or characterization equipment.
• Proficiency with lab troubleshooting tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes;
• Experience with vacuum, high vacuum, and/or ultra-high vacuum systems.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of reactive ion etching tools and principles.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar design software.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to rapidly learn new technical tools and processes;
• Highly organized self-starter with strong documentation skills.
