Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Research Scientist – Device Measurement Group. Location: Pasadena, California, USA

Responsibilities:

• Design and conduct experiments to analyze how environmental and material noise affects qubit dynamics.
• Collect statistically significant data through automated testing setups;
• Analyze and summarize experimental results for the team;
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, materials scientists, and circuit designers to apply improvements that reduce noise in superconducting quantum devices.
• Drive innovation in qubit performance by identifying and mitigating dominant noise sources.

Qualifications:

• PhD in a quantitative field, or MS with 4+ years of relevant research experience.
• Strong background in experimental measurement techniques;
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work within diverse teams;
• Minimum 2 years of experience with superconducting microwave/RF circuits.

Preferred:

• Proficiency in Python, R, MATLAB, or other scripting languages.
• Hands-on experience with design, layout, fabrication, and packaging of nanoscale superconducting devices.
• Deep understanding of noise sources in superconducting devices;
• Skilled in cryogenic hardware assembly, operation, and troubleshooting;
• Experience in building test setups and automating data analysis pipelines.
• Familiarity with qubit design and calibration methods.
• Strong theoretical understanding of superconducting circuits, including circuit Lagrangians and Hamiltonians.
• Awareness of various quantum computing architectures and algorithms.

Benefits:

• Hourly pay ranges from $54.33 to $93.85 based on location and experience.
• Total compensation may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and a full benefits package.
