Job Description

Job Title: Senior Research Scientist, Electromagnetic Modeling – Quantum (Goleta, CA, USA)

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct electromagnetic modeling of superconducting quantum chips and packaging.
  • Use EM simulation tools (e.g., HFSS) to predict quantum gate fidelities.
  • Analyze coupling and chip/package modes to optimize quantum circuit performance.
  • Investigate surface loss contributions and model qubit T1 budgets;
  • Develop and maintain simulation software and connect EM results to design workflows;
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to integrate simulation findings into fabrication processes.
  • Present findings internally and externally through presentations and publications.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Practical experience in electromagnetic modeling or electromagnetism theory.
  • Experience working with superconducting qubits.

Preferred:

  • Expertise in computational electromagnetics and microwave component design.
  • Background in condensed matter physics;
  • Familiarity with qubit layout, gate operations, and quantum verification methods;
  • Programming skills in Python and experience working collaboratively with experimental teams.
