Job Title: Hardware Development Engineer, Quantum Engineering – AWS CQC Fab. Job Location: Pasadena, California, USA

You will work both inside and outside cleanroom environments, developing advanced fabrication and characterization processes for novel quantum processors; This position plays a vital part in AWS’s long-term mission to deliver reliable, scalable quantum computing technology.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, improve, and maintain semiconductor fabrication processes.
• Analyze inline metrology and electrical test data to refine quantum chip quality;
• Collaborate with project leads and engineers to enhance fabrication performance.
• Operate and maintain etching and deposition tools such as DRIE, CVD, PVD, and ICP-RIE.
• Use metrology instruments including SEMs, optical profilometers, and image inspection systems.
• Contribute to process integration efforts for thin film, MEMS, and device fabrication;
• Manage or troubleshoot vacuum, electrical, and mechanical systems within the fabrication environment.
• Maintain a strong commitment to safety and cleanroom standards.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of relevant industry or lab experience;
• Experience with thin film deposition (CVD, PVD) and etching (DRIE, ICP-RIE, wet etching).
• Hands-on experience with semiconductor process characterization tools.
• Experience maintaining or developing fabrication tool systems.

Preferred:

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a related engineering or physics discipline.
• Background in MEMS fabrication, process integration, or advanced metrology;
• Experience designing mechanical or vacuum systems for semiconductor tools.
• Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or Julia;
• Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.
