Research Scientist (QPU Characterization)

Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist – QPU Characterization. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York. Job Type: Full-time / Research Fellowship

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement characterization protocols for Josephson junction-based qubit devices.
  • Develop scalable testing methodologies to assess device yield and performance prior to cryogenic testing.
  • Innovate predictive assessment architectures for large-scale multi-qubit systems;
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams on quantum processor development.
  • Publish high-impact research and contribute to IBM’s patent portfolio;
  • Represent IBM in the academic and professional quantum computing community.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field;
  • Proven experience in device characterization and research publication.
  • Proficiency with Python or similar programming language.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in device physics, IC design, and electrical testing.
  • Familiarity with large-scale wafer probing systems (200/300mm stations);
  • Background in fault-tolerant quantum computing or superconducting device testing.

$140k - $220k
