Job Description
Job Title: Senior Research Scientist, Quantum Error Mitigation Theory, Quantum AI. Location: Goleta, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Mountain View, CA, San Francisco, CA.
You will play a key role in shaping Google Quantum AI’s research direction by designing new mitigation frameworks, running large-scale simulations and contributing to flagship quantum experiments that impact the broader research community.
Responsibilities:
- Lead research on quantum error mitigation, suppression, and robust quantum protocols.
- Design and develop theoretical frameworks for major quantum experiments and demonstrations.
- Perform advanced numerical simulations and noise modeling for quantum systems;
- Work closely with experimental teams to translate theory into practical hardware results.
- Collaborate across multiple Google teams to enable real-world use of research outcomes.
- Publish high-impact research and clearly communicate results to internal teams and the global research community.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Quantum Information Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in quantum computing, chemistry, computational physics, applied mathematics, or mathematical modeling.
- Strong experience with noisy quantum systems, quantum noise modeling, and error mitigation or suppression techniques;
- Hands-on experience with experimental operation of quantum systems.
Preferred:
- Experience leading or contributing to large-scale industry or scientific research collaborations.
- Proven expertise in quantum protocols, system characterization methods, and advanced error mitigation or suppression techniques.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Base salary range (US): $166,000 to $244,000 per year
- Additional compensation includes bonus, equity, and benefits;
- Final compensation depends on location, skills, experience, and education.
