Job Description

Job Title: 2026 Intern: IBM Quantum Research Scientist. Location: Yorktown Heights NY, San Jose CA, Cambridge MA, Albany NY, United States. Job Type: Internship (Co-Op, Fixed Term, Onsite)

You will join a global research team at IBM that works on superconducting qubits, quantum control, quantum error correction, quantum algorithms, and other core areas.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the quantum computing technology stack, including hardware, software, and applications.
• Work with teams across research and development to solve technical problems;
• Take part in research talks, speaker sessions, and collaboration activities.
• Carry out research in areas such as quantum simulation, quantum chemistry, quantum information, or related fields.
• Support projects that help make quantum computing useful and accessible to a wide community.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience in a graduate or advanced academic program related to quantum computing or a similar field.
• Coursework or project work in quantum information, quantum computation, or quantum algorithms.
• Understanding of classical compilation tools such as LLVM or similar compilers;
• Experience with at least one general purpose programming language such as Python.
• Research experience connected to quantum computing or a related discipline;
• Knowledge of tools such as Excel, Airtable, Power BI, or Salesforce is helpful.

Preferred:

• Experience with scientific computing tools such as Python, NumPy, SciPy, and Matplotlib.
• Experience using Qiskit.
• Qiskit Advocate recognition is a plus;
• IBM Quantum Developer certification is a plus.
• Familiarity with Git or GitHub.
