Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist Intern, Quantum Algorithms, Center for Quantum Computing (AWS). Location: CA, United States (On-site or Hybrid near U.S. Amazon offices)

Job Type: Internship - Research Internship: Full-time (40 hours per week, 12 weeks)

You will work closely with world-class researchers in a fast-moving and highly collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and analyze novel quantum algorithms for future fault-tolerant quantum computers
• Evaluate the real-world potential and performance of quantum algorithms versus classical methods
• Apply mathematical and numerical analysis to assess algorithm efficiency and scalability;
• Conduct research across areas such as quantum chemistry, quantum machine learning, optimization, cryptography, and quantum complexity
• Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and scientists across multiple disciplines
• Read, analyze, and contribute to cutting-edge research papers
• Communicate research findings clearly through discussions and written reports

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a PhD program in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, machine learning, statistics, or a related quantitative field
• Strong background in mathematical and numerical analysis
• Interest in quantum algorithms and theoretical quantum computing
• Must be 18 years or older;
• Available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week
• Able to commit to a 12-week internship
• Willing and able to relocate to the internship location

Preferred:

• Expertise in at least one area of quantum algorithms or theoretical quantum information science
• Familiarity with quantum error correction or fault-tolerant quantum computing concepts
• Experience with Python or similar scientific programming languages;
• Interest in keeping up with new research developments in quantum computation
