Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist, Design and Simulation – AWS Center for Quantum Computing

This role involves working on qubits, readout and control schemes, and advanced quantum processors; Candidates with a strong research background, proven scientific contributions, and experience in software development are highly valued.

This position requires resourcefulness, strong engineering principles, and excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Design and simulate superconducting quantum devices, including qubits and advanced processors.
• Develop and improve readout and control schemes for quantum systems;
• Work closely with engineers, scientists, and technicians across multiple technical backgrounds.
• Apply microwave and multiphysics modeling tools (e.g., COMSOL, Sonnet, ANSYS, Keysight ADS).
• Contribute to device layout, scripting, and automation for design processes.
• Communicate results clearly in both written and verbal formats.
• Ensure adherence to safety and professional standards in a collaborative research environment.

Qualifications:

• PhD in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of quantum mechanics;
• Expertise in at least one of the following: superconducting qubits, hybrid quantum acoustic devices, cavity/circuit QED, quantum optics, open quantum systems, superconductivity theory, or quantum technologies (sensing, communications, computing).
• Proficiency in scientific programming.

Preferred:

• Experience with microwave and multiphysics modeling software (COMSOL, Sonnet, ANSYS, Microwave Office, Keysight ADS, Palace, Cadence AWR).
• Familiarity with device layout scripting and automation.
• Effective collaboration skills in interdisciplinary teams.

Benefits and Compensation:

• Base salary range: $136,000 to $212,800 per year (depending on geographic location and experience).
