Job Description

Job Title: Silicon Photonics Design Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

PsiQuantum is on a mission to build the world’s first useful, fault-tolerant quantum computer capable of solving real world problems. Our unique silicon photonics-based architecture enables us to scale quantum systems using existing semiconductor manufacturing processes and proven data center infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver ultra-low loss fiber-to-PIC couplers for next-generation photonic systems.
• Collaborate closely with architecture, process, packaging teams, and external vendors to iterate on designs.
• Integrate feedback from manufacturing constraints and system requirements into design specifications.
• Coordinate with layout and process teams to ensure successful tapeouts;
• Analyze technical issues using quantitative methods and propose corrective solutions to improve performance and yield.

Qualifications:

• MS with 5+ years of experience or a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with silicon photonics tapeouts and foundry PDKs;
• Proficiency in photonic simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, Tidy3D, COMSOL, RSoft).
• Familiarity with fiber attach methods and advanced packaging techniques.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a detail-oriented mindset;
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical projects and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively across teams and time zones.

Compensation:

• Competitive base salary: $125,000 – $160,000 USD (Bay Area-based range)
