Software Development Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Software Development Engineer, AWS Center for Quantum Computing (Device Team)

The ideal candidate will work closely with scientists and engineers to improve the efficiency and robustness of automated data collection from quantum devices & to develop software tools for data visualization and reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain automated systems for collecting and processing data from quantum devices.
• Build software tools to visualize and report experimental results for internal teams;
• Collaborate with scientists, hardware engineers, and data professionals to enhance testing and analysis workflows.
• Integrate data pipelines with AWS tools and services to support scalable experimentation.
• Apply statistical models and machine learning methods to analyze large datasets;
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team’s experimental automation framework.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of professional software development experience (non-internship).
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, Bash, or Perl;
• Experience with software development best practices, including testing, version control, and documentation.

Preferred:

• Experience working with scientific or data processing teams.
• Familiarity with AWS technologies and cloud-based software development.
• Experience in developing web services and working with REST APIs;
• Background in experimental physics or quantum computing;
• Knowledge of machine learning and statistical modeling tools.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to manage complex data workflows.

Control Requirement:

Due to U.S. export control regulations, candidates must be one of the following:

• U.S. citizen or national
• U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder);
• Lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum
• Or able to obtain a U.S. export license

Compensation and Benefits:

• Base salary ranges from $129,300 to $223,600 per year, depending on location, experience, and expertise.
• Additional compensation may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and other benefits.
• Full benefits package includes medical, financial, and retirement plans.
