Job Description

Job Title: Staff Software Engineer, Control. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; Remote‍

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Control team; This role focuses on developing system software to control photonic quantum computers, written in Rust, and collaborating across hardware, research, and software teams to bring fault-tolerant quantum computing to life.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement software for controlling photonic quantum computers using Rust.
• Design and architect robust, high-performance system software.
• Conduct code and design reviews;
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including hardware and research groups.
• Maintain and test control software systems.
• Set and uphold high standards for software development best practices across PsiQuantum.

Qualifications:

• 15+ years of hands-on experience in Rust or C++ in system-level software contexts.
• Demonstrated success in building and shipping high-reliability, high-performance software;
• Experience in system software for domains such as HPC, AI, robotics, control systems, semiconductor fabrication, or quantum computing.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred:

• Background in high-performance computing and computer architecture.
• Experience with operating systems, compilers, or kernel development;
• Familiarity with interfacing ASICs or FPGAs in performance-critical systems.
• Experience with distributed systems and highly scalable infrastructures.
• Working knowledge of Nix and quantum control concepts.
• PhD in a related technical discipline is a plus.
