Join IBM Research and be part of a team shaping the future of fault-tolerant quantum computing. As a Quantum Error Correction Research Software Developer, you will design and maintain tools for developing decoders, syndrome circuits, and logical gate implementations to support IBM’s fault-tolerant quantum systems. You will model realistic hardware noise, develop simulation libraries, and collaborate with theorists, experimentalists, and engineers across disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain high-performance libraries for decoding algorithms, syndrome circuits, and logical gate implementations.
  • Build and refine scalable simulation tools to assess quantum system performance under realistic noise models.
  • Create and validate hardware-specific noise models for both current and next-gen IBM quantum systems;
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of physicists, theorists, experimentalists, and hardware/software engineers.
  • Contribute to system design decisions by integrating software insights with hardware behavior.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field;
  • Experience in developing high-performance or real-time algorithms in either software or hardware contexts.
  • Hands-on experience simulating quantum circuits or quantum error correction protocols under noise models.
  • Proficiency in Python, Rust, or C++.
  • Experience building and maintaining research software libraries.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate degree in a related field.
  • Experience simulating noisy superconducting quantum circuits or open quantum systems.
  • Knowledge of decoder algorithms for quantum error correction and their hardware implementations.
  • Familiarity with fault-tolerant quantum computation techniques and protocols.
  • Experience working directly with experimentalists or theorists in quantum research.

Benefits:

Eligible employees may access a range of comprehensive benefits including:

  • Medical, dental, vision, mental health, and well-being coverage.
  • Financial programs including 401(k), stock purchase plans, life insurance, and disability coverage.
  • Paid time off: 12 holidays, minimum 56 hours sick leave, 120 hours vacation, and 12 weeks of parental bonding leave.
  • Training and certifications via IBM's AI-driven learning platform;
  • Participation in employee resource groups, volunteer opportunities, and exclusive retail discounts.

Additional Information:

  • Employment Type: Regular Full-Time
