Job Title: System Commissioning Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States
PsiQuantum is building the world’s first useful quantum computer using silicon photonics; As a System Commissioning Engineer, you will be instrumental in installing, testing, and maintaining the advanced infrastructure needed to support our fault-tolerant quantum systems; Your work will contribute directly to the development of scalable quantum data centers.
Responsibilities:
- Review system and sub-system hardware designs and commissioning plans.
- Lead installation, troubleshooting, and operation of systems such as cryostats, vacuum chambers, lasers, and optical fiber assemblies.
- Support the development and execution of commissioning procedures and scripts;
- Train on-site teams in system setup, calibration, maintenance, and safety.
- Oversee and execute power-on, calibration, and operational tests to ensure system readiness;
- Collaborate closely with validation teams to align commissioning procedures with performance metrics.
- Perform ongoing system maintenance, including recalibration and updates.
Qualifications:
- B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Electrical, Optical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant industry experience in system commissioning or related roles;
- Hands-on experience with cryogenic systems, vacuum systems, fiber optics, and electronic infrastructure.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and optical schematics;
- Experience with data center equipment, including UPS, generators, and power quality systems, is a plus.
- Familiarity with thermal, optical, and mechanical integration best practices.
Preferred:
- Experience in photonic systems or quantum computing environments.
- Knowledge of cryogenics and basic thermodynamics;
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for test automation and data handling.
- Exposure to quantum error correction concepts is a strong plus.
