System Dynamics Simulation - Photonics & Control

Job Description

Job Title: System Dynamics Simulation Engineer - Photonics and Control. Location: Multiple Countries

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize high-performance numerical models to define system performance boundaries.
  • Quantify the impact of physical imperfections on system-level requirements and design decisions.
  • Build system-level simulations to support calibration procedures for photonic chips and laser systems;
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC) control software.
  • Enhance in-house Python simulation toolkits or leverage third-party solvers for advanced modeling.
  • Maintain a robust and predictive digital twin of quantum hardware systems.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware and experimental teams to validate simulation results using lab data.
  • Translate subsystem-level imperfections into measurable system-level requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Optical Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong background in photonics, either experimental or theoretical.
  • Strong experience in numerical modeling and simulation.;
  • Practical knowledge of digital signal processing and feedback control systems.
  • Excellent Python programming skills with experience in numerical libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Numba, or JAX.
  • Experience building modular, maintainable, and well-documented codebases.
  • Strong system-level analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience collaborating with hardware or experimental teams to validate models with real-world data.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Physics, Engineering, Optical Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Background in control theory and systems engineering.
  • Experience with photonic integrated circuits or optical telecommunications.
  • Experience controlling complex hardware systems in lab or industrial environments;
  • Knowledge of performance optimization techniques such as memory profiling, benchmarking, and time complexity analysis.
  • Experience with high-performance programming languages such as C, C++, or Rust, or GPU-accelerated computing.
  • Experience with software infrastructure tools such as CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, and containerization.
