Job Description

Job Title: Test Automation Engineer, Photonics. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

As a Test Automation Engineer specializing in photonics, you will develop and implement automated test infrastructures to validate electrical, optical, and electro-optical subsystems; You will be responsible for building standard test flows, designing lab setups, and creating software automation for data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities:

• Review subsystem designs that integrate optics, electronics, firmware, software, and thermal components.
• Design and assemble laboratory setups with light sources, detectors, switches, function generators, and oscilloscopes.
• Develop software scripts to automate measurement setups and feed results into databases;
• Build algorithms to analyze data and extract key performance parameters.
• Create and optimize test plans, automated test flows, and standard operating procedures.
• Transfer developed test methods and procedures to lab operations teams.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical science.
• 4+ years of industry experience, including 3–4 years in test automation.
• Hands-on experience with optical and electrical test equipment (power meters, OBR, OSA, oscilloscopes, AWG, VNA).
• Background in testing electro-optical subsystems (such as telecom line cards);
• Knowledge of high-speed electro-optical devices and test instruments (e.g., electro-optical modulators, pulsed lasers, RF detectors).
• Ability to write and understand scripts for instrument communication and control.
• Proficiency in Python (preferred).
• Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is a plus.
