Job Description

Job Title: Computational Scientist (Job ID: 514). Locations: Broomfield, CO / Brooklyn Park, MN / Golden Valley, MN / Albuquerque, NM

Quantinuum, the world’s largest integrated quantum company, is looking for a Computational Scientist to join its growing team; This role focuses on advancing numerical tools and optimization techniques to support trapped-ion quantum computers and surface-electrode trap design.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain numerical tools that enable key features of trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Develop methods and algorithms for designing surface-electrode ion traps using electrostatic modeling and nonlinear optimization.
  • Collaborate with commercial and experimental teams on research and technology development;
  • Build and manage project plans for delivering numerical tools as part of Quantinuum’s broader commercial strategy.

Qualifications:

  • PhD completed prior to start.
  • At least 2 years of post-PhD experience applying physical principles to optimization problems or numerical simulations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, or worker with asylum/refugee status);
  • Must not be a People’s Republic of China or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen (due to U.S. government security requirements).

Preferred:

  • PhD in applied mathematics, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing numerical tools for novel physical systems;
  • Strong background in optimization methods such as convex optimization, genetic algorithms, or optimal control theory.
  • Proficiency in compiled languages (C, C++, Fortran, or Rust).
  • Experience configuring and analyzing BEM and/or FEM models;
  • Familiarity with HPC clusters, GPUs, and parallel computing.
  • Ability to interface compiled libraries with Python (ctypes, f2py).
  • Public-facing research contributions (patents, open-source work, conference presentations).
  • Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Annual salary: $140,000 – $175,000 (non-incentive eligible, based on skills, experience, and qualifications).
