Research Scientist - Fabrication

Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist – Fabrication. Location: Boston, MA (onsite preferred)

We are looking for a highly skilled Research Scientist in Fabrication to design, fabricate, and optimize our quantum interconnect platform; This work is critical for enabling scalable, distributed trapped-ion quantum computing systems.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and optimize advanced fabrication recipes for nano-photonic devices using state-of-the-art e-beam and direct-write lithography techniques.
• Implement robust inline metrology monitors and statistical process controls to ensure reliability of lithography and fabrication processes.
• Analyze and interpret scientific data from fabrication processes to guide design improvements;
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance IonQ’s photonic interconnect technology.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in fabrication, design, simulation, and optimization of nano-structured devices.
• Expertise in lithography, dry and wet etching, annealing, CVD, and PVD processes;
• Proficiency with simulation tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, or Flexcompute.
• Strong data processing and visualization skills.
• Familiarity with nano-structure design constraints and fabrication processes.

Preferred:

• 7+ years of nanophotonics design and characterization experience.
• 3+ years of industry experience;
• Background in heterogeneous integration and on-chip components.
• Experience building and using optical testing systems, including automated setups.

Benefits & Compensation:

• Base salary: $107,123 – $140,251 (varies based on experience and location).
