Production Engineer - Quantum

Job Description

Job Title: Production Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

As a Production Engineer, you will develop, optimize, and scale production processes for optical and semiconductor components that are critical to our quantum systems; This is an opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking hardware that will enable fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and optimize polishing processes for optical and semiconductor components to achieve high precision and low defect rates.
  • Support semiconductor and optical packaging operations including die attach, wire bonding, fiber alignment, sealing, and final testing.
  • Work with design, R&D, and equipment engineering teams to transfer prototypes into scalable production processes.
  • Develop process parameters, work instructions, and quality controls for reliable, repeatable production.
  • Monitor production data, identify yield losses, and lead root cause analysis with corrective actions;
  • Introduce new tools, fixtures, and automation solutions to improve efficiency and throughput.
  • Partner with suppliers and vendors to qualify materials, components, and processes.
  • Train technicians and operators on polishing and packaging workflows.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, precision optics, or advanced packaging.
  • Strong knowledge of optical surface preparation (lapping, polishing, metrology).
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor/optical packaging (bonding, alignment, sealing).
  • Familiarity with cleanroom operations, metrology, and process control;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven experience in root cause investigations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in photonics, fiber-optic components, or microelectronics assembly.
  • Knowledge of adhesives, epoxies, and underfills used in semiconductor/optical packaging.
  • Familiarity with SPC, DOE, or Six Sigma methodologies;
  • Experience with automation or custom tooling for packaging processes.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • U.S. Base Pay Range: $105,000 – $120,000 USD
  • Bay Area Pay Range: $130,000 – $145,000 USD
  • Equity and comprehensive benefits package available for full-time employees.
  • Actual pay will depend on qualifications, experience, and location.
