Job Description

Job Title: Director, Datacenter System Architecture. Location: Palo Alto, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Own the system requirements specification, including radix, form factor, rack height, connector type and count, faceplate design, power, thermal performance, monitoring, and redundancy.
  • Define the product delivery strategy, including which components PsiQuantum will build, which partners will build, and how the complete system will come together.
  • Own the system thermal and power budgets and use them as architectural constraints.
  • Define the control and management interface strategy for the customer's orchestration layer.
  • Identify, evaluate, and collaborate with OEM, ODM, joint venture, and strategic partners;
  • Make cross-subsystem architecture decisions and manage trade-offs to protect overall system performance.
  • Work with partners, manufacturing, and test teams to incorporate design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and test access from the beginning.
  • Lead the development of an integrated system combining PsiQuantum's photonic quantum engine with partner-built systems and components.
  • Take the product from specification through prototype and production.
  • Establish system-level requirements covering rack design, connectivity, power, thermal performance, monitoring, redundancy, and serviceability.
  • Support successful deployment of the system and ensure the architecture meets manufacturing and testing requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of hardware systems engineering experience.
  • At least 3 years directing system architecture for a rack-mounted networking or datacenter product that was shipped.
  • Direct experience with datacenter hardware constraints, including rack-unit budgets, airflow, power delivery, front-panel density, serviceability, and environmental standards;
  • Experience taking a system from specification through prototype and partner or contract-manufacturer production.
  • Familiarity with datacenter cabling and high-density front-panel port configurations.
  • Ability to write clear system specifications that engineering teams can build against.
  • Strong system-level architecture and cross-functional leadership skills.

    • Zone 1, Bay Area and NYC: $219,300 to $257,700
    • Zone 2, including Los Angeles and Washington, DC: $197,300 to $231,900
    • Zone 3, including Austin, Chicago, and Sacramento: $175,500 to $206,200
    • Zone 4, including Nashville, Phoenix/Tempe, and many remote locations: $153,500 to $180,400
