Job Description
Job Title: Senior Director, Head of Data. Location: Remote, United States (Onsite, Hybrid, or Remote available within the U.S.)
Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data Strategy
- Design and implement an enterprise-wide data framework connecting product, business, and functional data domains while maintaining functional ownership.
- Establish shared data models, taxonomies, and data definition standards across Finance, GTM, HR, Operations, and R&D.
- Maintain an enterprise registry of authoritative data sources, ownership, dependencies, and reporting relationships.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to build scalable data structures that support product development and growth.
Data Governance
- Develop and implement enterprise data governance models, including ownership, stewardship, decision rights, and accountability.
- Define standards for data quality, lineage, auditability, and cross-system integrity.
- Work with Legal, Security, IT, Architecture, and business teams to establish governance policies and workflows.
- Ensure enterprise data remains trusted, secure, and ready for decision-making.
Data Security and Compliance
- Design and implement Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) models.
- Establish data access request, approval, provisioning, and audit processes.
- Ensure integration with enterprise Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems.
- Collaborate with Security, Legal, and Compliance teams to implement controls for ITAR, CUI, export controls, personally identifiable information (PII), financial data, and other regulated information.
- Enable secure and compliant data access across the organization.
Data Platform and Infrastructure
- Develop and maintain the enterprise data platform roadmap.
- Support Snowflake environments and evaluate future data lake, lakehouse, warehouse, semantic layer, and hybrid architectures.
- Determine appropriate strategies for connecting, consolidating, or expanding enterprise data platforms.
- Partner with IT and Architecture teams to build scalable data pipelines and integrations.
- Document enterprise data flows, transformations, source systems, and downstream reporting dependencies.
Data Integration and Acquisitions
- Lead data integration efforts during acquisitions and onboarding of new business entities.
- Develop scalable processes for integrating and harmonizing new data environments.
- Reconcile differences in data structures and definitions across acquired organizations.
Intellectual Property and Critical Data Management
- Establish enterprise methodologies and tools for identifying, classifying, and managing critical intellectual property and sensitive data.
- Partner with Legal, Security, and technical teams to implement appropriate protection controls.
- Develop long-term strategies for safeguarding high-value enterprise data.
- Enable project-specific handling rules for sensitive technical and product information.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Serve as a cross-functional leader responsible for enterprise data architecture and governance.
- Influence organizational alignment through standards, best practices, and governance rather than direct operational ownership.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, GTM, HR, IT, Architecture, Security, Product, and Engineering teams.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience designing and implementing enterprise data architecture and governance strategies.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise data models, metadata management, data lineage, cataloging, and integration.
- Experience developing enterprise data platforms and scalable data infrastructure.
- Knowledge of RBAC, ABAC, IAM, enterprise security, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, including Snowflake;
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience collaborating across Finance, HR, Product, Engineering, Security, IT, and business teams.
- Ability to influence organizational strategy through governance and enterprise standards.
Preferred:
- Experience leading enterprise data integration during mergers and acquisitions.
- Experience with data lakes, lakehouses, semantic layers, and hybrid data architectures;
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks including ITAR, export controls, CUI, and PII compliance.
- Experience supporting AI and machine learning initiatives through governed enterprise data.
- Experience building scalable enterprise data platforms for high-growth technology organizations.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Base salary: $192,979 to $276,722 USD annually.

Other Information:
- Remote position available throughout the United States, with onsite and hybrid options at IonQ offices.
- Domestic travel up to 5% may be required.
- This position partners closely with Finance, GTM, HR, IT, Architecture, Security, Product, and Engineering teams.
- The role focuses on enterprise data architecture, governance, integration, metadata, lineage, and data platform strategy, while business functions retain ownership of their domain-specific data;
- Employment may require compliance with U.S. export control regulations and government contract requirements.
