Equipment Hardware Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Equipment Hardware Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California

D-Wave is hiring a Senior Equipment Hardware Engineer to support its fabrication team at the Palo Alto lab; This role focuses on maintaining and operating thin film deposition systems and metrology equipment, ensuring lab infrastructure runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular and preventive maintenance of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) systems.
  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot PVD tools and metrology instruments.
  • Act as the primary technical contact in the lab, ensuring operational readiness.
  • Analyze and report on data from PVD processes and film measurements;
  • Oversee logistics including shipping, receiving, and materials transport.
  • Monitor lab infrastructure, ensuring safety protocols and cleanliness standards are consistently followed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience, or Associate’s degree with 7+ years of experience in a related hardware or fabrication role.
  • Physically able to lift 50 lbs and perform hands-on tasks in a lab environment.
  • U.S. work authorization and the ability to obtain federal security clearance;
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in basic tools, lab instrumentation, and lab safety.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Tango PVD systems (hardware/software).
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems and integrated circuit fabrication processes.
  • Experience working in cleanrooms and following strict cleanroom protocols.
  • Skills in data analysis and metrology tools;
  • CPR certification is a plus.
