Job Description
Job Title: Experimental R&D AMO Physicist. Location: Golden Valley, MN, USA
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test quantum computing systems based on trapped ion qubits.
- Operate and maintain experimental setups including lasers, UHV systems, and control electronics.
- Perform system characterization and data collection to validate performance;
- Conduct design trade studies to optimize experimental methods and setups.
- Present research findings at scientific conferences and publish results;
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, physicists, and software teams.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics or related field, completed before the start date.
- At least 4 years of experience (including PhD research) in one or more areas:
- Quantum information systems
- Trapped ion or cold atom systems
- Precision spectroscopy
- Optics and vacuum systems
- Electronics and cryogenics
- U.S. person status required (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or protected status).
- Not eligible if solely a national of the People's Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen.
Preferred:
- Experience designing or operating quantum information processing systems.
- Background in laser cooling, ion or neutral atom trapping.
- Simulation/modeling to inform experiment design;
- Programming experience for experimental control, data collection, and signal processing.
- Strong publication record and communication skills.
- Leadership or mentoring experience in academic or industrial research environments.
