Job Title: Staff Research Scientist, Modeling of Two-Qubit Gates and Tunable Couplers. Location: Goleta, CA, USA
As a Staff Research Scientist, you will focus on advancing the modeling of two-qubit gates and tunable couplers to enable meaningful applications in quantum computing; You will collaborate with experimentalists, run large-scale simulations, analyze data, and develop new approaches for improved gate performance.
Responsibilities:
- Simulate two-qubit gates for transmons and model both parametric and non-parametric couplers.
- Develop physics-based models to identify and analyze error mechanisms.
- Optimize system parameters using numerical methods;
- Analyze experimental data on two-qubit and multi-qubit gates.
- Propose and evaluate new gate designs with enhanced performance.
- Collaborate with experimental teams and contribute research findings to the wider scientific community.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience with superconducting qubits, including modeling of two-qubit gates;
- Proven track record of collaboration with experimentalists on quantum research projects.
Preferred:
- Experience with circuit QED and numerical simulations of quantum systems.
- Knowledge of tunable couplers, parametric gates, or transmon readout, and experience in flux/charge noise analysis.
- Strong background in superconducting quantum computing;
- Proficiency in Python programming.
Compensation and Benefits:
- US base salary range: $197,000–$291,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
- Pay is based on role, level, work location, skills, and experience;
- Additional benefits include comprehensive health coverage and other Google employee perks.
