Fabrication Hardware Etch Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Fabrication Hardware Etch Engineer, Quantum AI. Location: Goleta, CA, USA

In this role, you will focus on wet and dry etching techniques in a cleanroom environment to help improve the performance & reliability of superconducting quantum processors; You’ll work closely with teammates and contribute to the long term goal of building a large scale, error-corrected quantum computer.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain semiconductor microfabrication processes, primarily focusing on wet and dry etching.
  • Implement procedures and create detailed documentation for cleanroom processes and equipment use.
  • Train technicians on safe and effective use of fabrication tools;
  • Troubleshoot fabrication process issues and resolve equipment problems as needed.
  • Contribute to other fabrication areas such as thin film deposition, photolithography, thermal processing, metrology, singulation, and device packaging.
  • Fabricate advanced quantum hardware as part of Google's ongoing quantum computing mission.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP), or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a cleanroom environment;
  • At least 2 years of experience with semiconductor R&D or production, specifically involving wet or dry etching processes.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of semiconductor fabrication experience with a focus on etching;
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), change control, standard operating procedure (SOP) writing, and technician training.
  • Hands-on experience in any of the following: materials characterization, CAD tools, failure analysis, tool specification and purchase, and data analysis or visualization.

Compensation:

  • Base salary: $126,000 to $181,000
  • Additional compensation includes bonus, equity, and benefits;
  • Final compensation depends on location, experience, and skill set
