Manager, Equipment Engineering

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Manager, Equipment Engineering. Location: Fremont, California, USA

You will work closely with fabrication engineers, facilities teams, and EHS partners to ensure a safe, compliant, and reliable R and D environment; This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working with detailed systems, and leading experienced technical teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead maintenance, uptime, and reliability of fabrication equipment, including high-vacuum deposition, lithography, plasma etch, packaging, and metrology tools
  • Diagnose equipment issues and coordinate repairs, preventive maintenance, and upgrades with internal teams and external vendors
  • Oversee hazardous materials handling and chemical waste management in compliance with local and federal regulations;
  • Interface with the City of Fremont, Union Sanitary District, and EHS consultants for permitting, inspections, and reporting
  • Support facility infrastructure systems such as process cooling water, exhaust systems, compressed air, and power distribution
  • Collaborate with Fabrication, Facilities, Engineering Operations, and EHS teams on maintenance planning and Fab expansion projects
  • Support the design, installation, and commissioning of new tools and infrastructure as the Fab grows
  • Use maintenance data, logs, and performance metrics to anticipate issues and improve long-term reliability

Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of experience in equipment maintenance or similar technical roles
  • Background in semiconductor, MEMS, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with high-vacuum systems, plasma etching tools, cryogenic systems, or laser-based equipment
  • Solid knowledge of hazardous materials management and environmental compliance
  • Experience managing and developing skilled equipment technicians;
  • Proven ability to work across fabrication, facilities, and engineering operations teams
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, and external agencies
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven and systems-level mindset
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to turn technical findings into action plans

Preferred:

  • Experience working in semiconductor or R and D fabrication facilities
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems or equipment data collection tools;
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, and Union Sanitary District

  • Base salary range: $165,000 to $200,000 per year

Final compensation depends on experience, skills, and geographic location.
