Mechanical Engineer, Cryogenic Hardware

Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer, Cryogenic Hardware. Location: Pasadena, California, United States

The position requires strong hands-on experience in cryogenic mechanical engineering, hardware design, and full product development cycles; You will work closely with scientists and engineers across multiple teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective cryogenic solutions for quantum hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop cryogenic mechanical hardware from concept to deployment.
  • Create high-density packaging solutions for quantum processor units.
  • Design cryogenic signal delivery and signal conditioning sub-assemblies;
  • Improve thermal performance and reduce electromagnetic interference within qubit environments.
  • Perform simulation-driven design using thermal and structural analysis tools.
  • Own full product development cycles including requirements, detailed design, manufacturing, integration, testing, and final delivery.
  • Prepare design reports, conduct design reviews, and create assembly and testing documentation.
  • Participate in design, requirements, and test reviews with internal stakeholders;
  • Collaborate across hardware, research, and system teams to drive technical decisions.
  • Define and improve engineering standards and operational processes.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, startup-style research environment.

Qualifications:

  • PhD, or Master’s degree with 4 or more years of quantitative research experience.
  • Strong background in cryogenic mechanical engineering theory and real-world implementation.
  • Experience applying scientific and engineering principles to real products.
  • Experience analyzing experimental and observational data sets;
  • Proven ability to drive designs through complete product development lifecycles.
  • Strong teamwork and cross-functional communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, R, or similar scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with agile development practices;
  • Experience building web-based dashboards using common frameworks.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
  • Experience with thermal and structural FEA tools such as Ansys or COMSOL.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base Salary Range:
    • From $136,000 per year (lowest geographic market)
    • Up to $212,800 per year (highest geographic market)
  • Compensation is based on location, experience, and skills;
  • Total compensation may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and additional incentives.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, financial, and wellness programs.
