Opto-mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Advanced Opto-Mechanical Engineer. Location: Broomfield, CO. Job Type: Full-time, On-site

We are looking for an experienced Advanced Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join our Quantum Computing Hardware team; In this role, you'll collaborate with physicists and engineers to develop high-precision opto-mechanical systems used in advanced photonic & micro-optics platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop quantum research and commercial systems.
  • Design and model opto-mechanical components using CAD tools.
  • Build, align, and test high-performance optical systems;
  • Develop lens assemblies and integrate motion control systems for optical alignment.
  • Select appropriate materials and adhesives for optical and photonic assemblies.
  • Apply FEA tools to evaluate structural, modal, and thermal performance
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, documentation, and assembly procedures.
  • Contribute hands-on to machining, prototyping, and test setups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in opto-mechanical CAD design for photonics or optics (advanced degrees count toward experience).
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status);
  • Must not be a national of the People’s Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen (due to national security requirements).

Preferred:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in CAD platforms such as Onshape;
  • Experience with fiber alignment systems and polarization-maintaining fibers.
  • Familiarity with motion control systems and active optical feedback loops.
  • Practical knowledge of fabrication, machining, and optical component assembly.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $114,000 – $143,000 annually
