Optomechanical Engineer - Coherent Control

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Optomechanical Engineer – Coherent Control Gate Operations. Location: Bothell, Washington (Onsite). Travel: Up to 20% domestic and international travel may be required

This position involves collaboration with experts in atomic physics, optics, mechanical and electrical engineering, and thermal/vacuum design; You will contribute throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept to manufacturing handoff.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and build optical and laser systems for opto-electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Analyze and conceptualize complex optomechanical systems using modeling and simulations;
  • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate optomechanical hardware into quantum computing systems.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, run design of experiments (DOEs), and analyze collected data;
  • Develop complete design documentation including CAD models, drawings, BOMs, calibration instructions, test procedures, and fixture designs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve product anomalies and non-conformances.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience designing optics-based hardware systems;
  • 3+ years of experience in thermal, mechanical, and optomechanical system architecture;
  • Proficient in CAD (preferably SolidWorks) with strong understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Deep understanding of GD&T, optical alignment, and metrology techniques.
  • Experience in optical/optomechanical/optoelectronic component design and specifications.
  • Familiarity with thermal management and precision alignment systems;
  • Knowledge of the Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) or New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Ability to manage multiple fast-paced projects and coordinate cross-functional deliverables.
