Physicist - Resilience Engineering

Job Description

Job Title: Physicist - Resilience Engineering & Operations. Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

As a System Operations Engineer, you will join a cross-functional team focused on operating and improving our commercial quantum systems; This role is ideal for physics or engineering graduates excited to work with cutting-edge quantum hardware and software.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, monitor, and improve the performance and uptime of commercial quantum computers
  • Ensure optimal system performance through automation and technical improvements;
  • Work closely with physicists and engineers to develop tools and solutions for current and future systems
  • Deliver a seamless customer experience by maintaining operational excellence;
  • Participate in on-call rotation schedules to support 24/7 system uptime

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics, engineering, or another physical science
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, especially within distributed teams
  • Hands-on experience with optical alignments, laser stabilization, or AOMs
  • Eagerness to learn emerging technologies;
  • Formal training or education in statistics
  • Adaptability to a dynamic and fast-evolving work environment
  • Availability for flexible working hours and 24/7 on-call rotation;
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience or equivalent education
  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience in atomic and/or optical physics

Preferred:

  • PhD in physics, engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in Python or JavaScript;
  • Background in data science, data analysis, or machine learning
  • Software engineering experience

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base Salary Range: $93,150 – $121,958;
  • Additional Compensation: Bonus and equity

Compensation varies based on experience, skills, and market location.
