Job Description

Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher, Quantum Many-Body Theory and Quantum Computation. Location: University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA

Job Type: Full-time, Research Fellowship - This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced research at the interface of quantum computation and condensed matter theory.
  • Focus areas include practical quantum simulation, quantum computation, phase transitions, and nonequilibrium dynamics in strongly-correlated and open quantum many-body systems.
  • Apply advanced numerical simulation techniques, particularly tensor network state methods.
  • Collaborate with Professors Thomas Barthel and Norbert Linke, as well as QLab fellows, students, and the wider UMD quantum community including JQI and QuICS.
  • Leverage state-of-the-art quantum computing resources to support research objectives.
  • Participate in user support, mentoring, and outreach activities for global quantum research users.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Strong foundation in quantum many-body theory and quantum computation.
  • Experience with numerical simulation methods and tensor network approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience with quantum simulation platforms or quantum hardware.
  • Familiarity with programming tools such as Qiskit or other quantum software frameworks.
  • Publications demonstrating contributions to quantum computation or condensed matter research.

  • Salary range: $76,000 - $82,000 per year.
