Design P-Cell Development Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Process Design Kit (PDK) P-Cell Development Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

With support from government-backed initiatives in the US and Australia, the company is on a fast track to building utility-scale quantum data centers; PsiQuantum combines quantum expertise with proven semiconductor manufacturing processes to accelerate the path to real-world quantum applications.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality p-cells for the photonics Process Design Kit (PDK).
• Validate and release updated versions of the PDK to support accuracy, performance, and integration.
• Review and approve component layouts before integrating them into the PDK or system circuits;
• Coordinate across teams including foundry, process, circuit design, layout, and testing to ensure end-to-end integration.
• Support photonics tape-outs, ensuring successful fabrication and delivery.
• Help define and build the physical design flow used in PsiQuantum’s silicon photonics development.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 8 years of experience in PDK or similar design kit development.
• Strong Python skills with a focus on clean, modular, testable code;
• Familiarity with layout tools such as KLayout; experience with gdsfactory is a plus.
• Working knowledge of collaborative version control systems (Git preferred).
• Prior experience with or interest in photonics and quantum computing.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-driven.

Benefits and Compensation:

• Bay Area Salary Range: $210,000 – $240,000 USD
• U.S. Salary Range (Outside Bay Area): $190,000 – $225,000 USD
• Compensation includes base salary, equity, and full-time benefits;
